SAYONARA - PIGU

SAYONARA - PIGU

Last year, a primary bestie of mine found me on instagram painting dogs and he messaged me. He said he and his partner would like to commission me to paint their furry child PIGU. Not even joking, the last time we talked was like 22 years ago.

They sent me some references of this majestic Samoyed. I took a deep deep breath. Why? If you followed my posts long enough, you would know, dogs that are fluffy angelic white are so difficult to paint, like Westies, Spitz, Pom, and Samoyed… But nothing can stop me from creating the most meaningful art for my dog people.

I painted version 1, they thought the eyes should be a little bit brighter, sharper and soulful. Then I painted version 2, but they preferred version 1 instead. Knowing that it’s not the perfect capture, I was not ready to give up trying. So I made the third attempt.

Happy days, they were very pleased with version 3! They think it’s the perfect representation of their boy.

We chatted some more on insta, and he told me PIGU was turning 12 with kidney failure, and they were kinda “ready” to turn to the final chapter with the boy. They commissioned me because it’s time to immortalise the most important memory of their lives.

On 28 Jan, I received 2 photos of PIGU with his handsome portrait! The art piece arrived in the USA safe and perfect. Exactly one month later, my primary school mate posted about PIGU entering his eternal rest. And I cried.

Would you agree with me, even though the pain is gonna last forever, we will still choose to live with our dog for the briefest time on earth.
